The FA Premiership is probably the greatest football league in the world. As an homage to the greatness that is the Premier League, I've reproduced the English Premiership table below. I'll try to keep it as up to date as possible, although sometimes this is quite difficult. If you want to know when my Premiership table was last updated, please see the date just below the table.

A lot of you are looking for this at the moment - here's a link to a video of the 7-0 Liverpool vs Birmingham game.

I'm a bit late with these, but they're still worth posting. Here's the William Gallas goal in the Chelsea v Tottenham game, and the stupid Thierry Henry goal that came from a Steven Gerrard error in the Arsenal v Liverpool game.

22/2/2005
I saw the Real Madrid v Arsenal game, and thought Arsenal looked the much better team. For all their Galaticos, Real Madrid were poor. Ronaldo had no pace, Beckham's passes were poor, and Zidane was snubbed out. Anyways, here's a video clip of Thierry Henry's goal vs Real Madrid.

A lot of you out there are searching for this right now, so here's the Alan Smith leg break video clip. Ferguson said it's one of the worst injuries he's ever seen. Smithy managed to break his leg, as well dislocating his ankle - ouch!!!

Check out this little bastard as he takes the piss out of Steven Gerrard before the Chelsea v Liverpool game.

I've got some great little video clips today. The first is Xabi Alsono's 70 yard goal from the FA Cup game where Liverpool beat Luton 5-3 (click here). The second is an amazing trick by Thierry Henry when Arsenal thrashed Middlesbrough 7-0 (click here).

Now that the World Cup groups have been announced, I've created a 2006 World Cup page for the site - much in the same vein as this page. Hop on over there, where you'll find all the groups and World Cup news.

I got out last night to see the Manchester United vs Benfica game. What a disapointment it was - not in terms of it being a poor game, but because I really wanted United to win. Man Utd's opener was a weird goal scored by Scholes in which he literally ran the ball over the goal line. For the rest of the first half Benfica looked solid defensively, while United seemed to fall apart. There were gaping holes in the defense, and both goals came when the Benficans were able to easily shrug off their markers. The worst offender seemed to be Gary Neville, who seemed to be at fault for the second goal.

The second half was completely different. United seemed to play a tighter game - they had majority possession, and had the best chance of the half when Ronaldo rolled the ball behind the defence across the face of the goal to Scholes. Unfortunately Scholes thought Ronaldo was going to take a shot at goal, and just lacked the pace to connect with the ball.

Ferguson made some quality substitions, bringing on Park Ji-Sung and Saha to replace Ronaldo and Giggs. The game seemed to get even more frantic - an already physical encounter seemed to get even more physical. Man Utd started to make mistakes - possesion was being lost far too easily, and at the end of the day, Benfica managed to snub out the effectiveness of Rooney, who you'd never have known was playing from watching the game.

The end score was 2-1. It was such a shame, and a sad day in English football. What this means for United is anyones guess. Will Ferguson still be manager in January? Are the Glazers here to stay, even without a UEFA cup spot? Let's hope so, for football's sake.

Today is a sad day for football - George Best has gone to the big football pitch in the sky. Although his lifestyle has been controversial at times, he will best remembered as being the most naturally gifted footballer of his generation, and one of the greatest footballers the UK has ever produced.

So I was a bit wrong about the score last night. Man Utd started well, looking dominant in the first half. Unfortunately Villareal managed to cancel them out in the second half, and in the end it turned into another disappointing display for United. Still, they can still progress to the next leg of the Champions League if they beat Benfica at home.

To cheer up all you United fans, I've got some well good video clips:

Firstly, here are the Barcelona vs Real Madrid goals. Here's Ronaldinho showing off (although I'm not sure if it's real), and here's a crazy goal for Birmingham.

So it's a do or die game for Man Utd tonight. My money's on Man Utd giving Villareal a real beating. Following their recent form with their win against Chelsea, and then watching Rooney's magnificent display against Charlton, I think they could do a lot of damage. My money is on United winning 3-0.

I've still not been able to catch much footy lately. The last full game I saw was Man Utd vs. Lille, and I though Man Utd were pretty mediocre. Scholes was an idiot for getting sent off. This weekend all I managed to see was MOTD2, but that provided enough plenty of amusement. The Pires - Henry penalty kick was classic.

EDITED - I've now found the Pires - Henry penalty video - click here to see it.

For those who didn't see it, I'll fill you in. Arsenal were playing at home to Man City. Man City had earlier conceded a penalty, which Pires converted nicely. When City conceded a second penalty, Pires went to the spot to take it. What followed next was apparently a bid to provide a bit more entertainment for the fans. Rather than slotting the ball into the back of the net, he tried to roll it forward into the path of a running Henry, who was meant to score. Unfortunately Pires scuffed the ball - it didn't move - meaning that it didn't reach Henry. Under FA rules, you can only touch the ball once from the penalty spot. The referee spotted Pires taking a second touch, and a free kick was given to Man City.

The full story can be read here.

In other football news, it seems like Beckham has taken a leaf out of Rooney's book by getting red carded for sarcastically clapping the referee. Idiot!

What an awful game that was on Saturday. They just didn't seem to be playing with any sense of urgency. I think John Motson said 10 minutes into the game that they didn't look like a team that were out to prove a point. Following recent form, this was something they needed to do.

They just weren't taking the game to Austria, choosing to knock the ball gently between each other in their own half, rather than attack with any aggression. Apart from the Beckham incident, Peter Crouch seemed to be the main talking point of the game. It's hard to know whether he's good or bad. It looked like his legs might be a bit too long to actually be useful, and his own shots on goal lack power. He was very good at providing little passes or headers to Owen though, so it wasn't all bad.

Beckham received the unenviable accolade of being the only English captain to receive a red card - and the only English player to ever receive a red card twice for his country. Admittedly both yellow cards shown to him were unjustified, but he should have calmed down after he was given the first one.

All in all, it leaves us in a weird situation for the Poland game that we're going to watch on Wednesday. We've got an underperforming England squad who know they're already through to the World Cup, and are going to be missing Beckham, Gerrard, and Campbell. On paper it doesn't sound like it's going to be a good game to watch - I'm just hoping that Rooney is going to return to the squad with something to prove to the country.

My England tickets arrived today:

Don't they look good! The seats are in the East Stand - behind one of the goals - and fairly close to the pitch.

I saw the Man Utd vs Benfica game on Tuesday. It wasn't that good. They probably deserved to win the game, but only marginally. I feel that they've got problems with finishing at the moment. Like when they lost to Blackburn, they had loads of chances, but nobody could find the back of the net. In the Benfica game there just seemed to be too many missed opportunities.

I managed to catch two games of football at the weekend. The first was the Man Utd Vs Liverpool game. The game ended 0-0, so you can imagine that it was pretty boring. There didn't seem to be much Rooney baiting in a game in which Liverpool appeared to be the dominant force.

Just as I was getting ready to leave the pub, the Newcastle Vs Blackburn game kicked off. I've been looking forward to seeing Owen score his first goal for Newcastle, so I decided to hang around. Needless to say when the whistle for half time went with the score at 0-0, I wasn't prepared to stay around for another dull 45 minutes. Jimbo even said to me that as soon as I left the pub the goals would start coming - and they did.

I found Owen's and Wenger's comments on the state of the FA Premier League reflected what's been happening so far this season. Everyone's playing the same sensible formation, leaving very little space on the pitch for anyone to do anything creative.

Sack the Swede

7/09/2005
So I've just finished watching England's miserable performance against Northern Ireland. I don't know what happened there - we just seemed to unravel - painfully. Following criticism after the Wales game, Sven Goran Errikson decided to tinker with our formation again.

Rooney was put out the left, a position he clearly wasn't happy about judging by his behaviour shortly before half time. After catching one of the NI players with a swinging elbow in a challenge that lead to him getting a yellow card (and subsequently banned from the next qualifier against Austria), Beckham tried to calm him down - only to be met with a few choice Rooneyisms. As the team left the field for half time he even managed to have a dig at his own club team mate, Ferdinand.

Overall the first half performance was poor, but there were a few positives to be taken from it. Beckham was on top form, nearly scoring from a beautiful free kick that just clipped the post. And Owen executed a nice overhead volley that was just short on the power needed to have made it a goal.

The second half started without substitutions for the England team, and things seemed to go from bad to worse. NI's goal came from a moment of madness in which 4 England players failed to close down the opposition, allowing him to chip the ball over them to a fellow player just outside the box. All that was left was for him to shoot across the face of the goal - Robinson made contact but it wasn't enough, and the ball was in the back of the net.

What followed was a series of ill conceived substitutions by Errikson, which left the squad looking as if nobody knew what role they were meant to be playing in. Suffice to say, England couldn't get the goal required, and we went home with no points,

It also appears that Errikson is here to stay, despite chants from the fans to "Sack the Swede!"

So I saw the England game on Saturday, and to be honest, I thought we played quite well. We seemed to dominate the first half, and only really seemed to slack off in the last 15-20 minutes of the game. Lampard, Rooney and Cole all had good attempts on the goal, and the only worrying incident was when Carragher passed the ball to Wales just outside the box. Robinson's save was amazing, as was Beckham's performance. Rooney, at times, seemed a bit lost up front on his own, and was unable to connect with quite a few decent crosses into the box.

All in all I thought it was a pretty good performance, so I was a bit surprised to read the Sunday papers that were suggesting that we weren't really up to much. Admittedly Cole's goal was pretty scrappy, and when we scored we slacked off, giving Wales the opportunity to try and take advantage of their possesion, but in the end we got the result needed.

With the football season now in full swing, I thought I'd kick off a football blog to leave my thoughts on any of the games that I manage catch. My sites only been running since the tail end of the last season, but I was getting enough traffic for football related stuff to warrant setting up a dedicated football area on the site. If I find any football related news or videos of any interest, I'll post them here. I'm also trying to sort out the RSS feed above, so you'll be able to find links to football related stuff on the BBC from here.

It's been a slow start to the season for me so far. I've only managed to catch two games so far - both were Chelsea vs Arsenal (Community Shield and FA Premier League games) - and I was a bit disappointed with both of them. I guess I haven't really got into the football yet because summer is still alive and kicking, so it feels a bit strange to be spending Sunday afternoons sitting in a dingy boozer when I could be chilling on the beach.

There seems to be a lot going on in terms of England this week. All the talk about our new formation for the Wales game is making me a bit nervous - I guess I'll have to wait and see how it pans out. I just hope we win, or I'll be in for some stick from Crosby. I'm also starting to get pretty excited about going to see the England vs Poland - that's going to be so good - my first international game, and my first visit to to Old Trafford!
